Little Black Wire

Okay, so I have a 1987 volvo 240 DL and I am in the process of replacing the alternator. I noticed that there was a small black wire bundled with the wires that connect to the alternator. It appears that it should be connected to a piece that is above the alternator (a sensor perhaps?) but has become disconnected. I was wondering if anyone knew what this wire was for and if it is important to reconnect it or not. Also, any diagrams for wire connections to alternators would be greatly apprecieted!

There is no black wire in the alternator circuit for the 240.

The 740/760 had two extra wires in the loom to the alternator but these were for the battery temperature sensor.

Is there a connector on the wire?

I was wondering what that black wire was for too.
It goes into some kind of sensor just to the right of the oil filter & above the alternator. What is this sensor?

I also thought this might have something to do with the alternator but I reconnected it and the alternator still doesn't work.

EDIT:
After searching I found the sensor is a oil pressure switch.
