940/960 loss of upper air conditioning during acceleration

Post by ibismachine »

Just fixed this problem on my 1996 960 like I did on my 1993 940. Thought some pictures might help. Thanks to those with suggestions for this fix. Remove rear panel under steering column (940 - two plastic turn clips) or entire lower cover on the 960 (two torx screws 3 snap connections). Way up under on the right hand side you will see 3 vacuum valves - one with a single red tube, one with a single clear yellow tube and one with a blue tube and yellow tube. The blue and yellow damper is the one that is bad on both of my cars. I removed the yellow hose and plugged it (the 940 has a golf tee - the 960 an old glass fuse). As far as I can tell there is little repercussion from this fix. Hope it helps someone.
