ABS sensor

Post by tomoz »

Hi all,

I have a 97 s70 and recently the abs sensor became illuminated. It was only for about 5kms that the light was on and not it has turned off. The car is due for new pads and disks at next service. The car has only done 70,000kms. Is this common, and is it related to pad wear, or should I batton down the hatches for an ABS servo replacement as well??

The ABS sensors are magnetic. Metalic crap builds up on the sensor and causes it to give false information to the ABS CPU. You can remove your wheel, follow the wires to the sensor on the spindle, unplug the sensor, take the retaining bolt out (8mm if memory serves), and pull out the sensor. It may be a little tight but you should be able to get it out by pulling strait up. Use a shop rag to wipe all the dirt and crud off and reinstall. Do this with all 4 sensors. If your ABS light comes back on you may have a more severe problem.
