Radiator Cap?
Radiator Cap?
On my truck my radiator cap is right on top of my radiator. Where would it be on my 2000 Volvo V40 1.9? I've been having a problem with my coolant level dropping. There are no leaks and I just want to make sure the cap is okay or if I need to replace it. I'm thinking that may solve my problem.

Welcome to MVS.
Your radiator does not have a cap. Instead there is a reservoir behind the passenger side strut tower with a blue/green cap. This is where you fill the coolant from:

Thank you! I'm glad to be here. I just recently bought a 2000 Volvo V40. Most of my family owns Volvo's and they all love theirs so I thought I would give Volvo a try.MadeInJapan wrote:Welcome to MVS.

Thank you for the speedy reply :]
I have one more question about my Volvo. My radiator cooling fans don't seem to come on. When I have the A/C on only one turns on... Is this normal or should both fans kick on? On my truck the fan is always on.
Thanks,
Rich

Not sure on your particular model, but I would think that it should come on...if that one never comes on then it's either the relay under the fan shroud at the front of the car or it's the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor at the base of the thermostat housing which coolant runs through. You can have the trouble codes read from your OBD-II diagnostic part (passenger's compartment) by an autoparts store to be sure that it's the sensor.

Not bad, but you will have to drain your coolant at least down past your thermostat housing. Also, if you're in that far anyway, it's best to go ahead and replace your thermostat as a preventative measure.

I bought a fairly used 1995 Volvo 850 and my mechanic took out the termostat. According to him since West Africa is very hot that is what they do to cars imported from Europe. what are the consequences of his action?
The electrician is saying he has to connect the fan so that it will run continously when I start the car because of our temperature.. am cofused , can someone tell me the right thing to be done please
