How to troubleshoot with dealer software?

If this has been discussed already, I would like to see the text. My apologies for the repeat.

Aside from the VADIS software installed on a computer, what else is needed to troubleshoot with the software? Is there a "probe", or other types of connectors, that you buy for the computer to do so?

I've not seen this in action, but thought it may be an undertaking worth pursuing; save some people a trip to the dealer as well.

Hope I'm not writing about anything illegal either...

The diagnostic/data cable they use to connect to the car costs a ton of money.

Happen to have a link to the cable, or know what kind of cable it is?

Could also be worth looking into, to engineer it myself...

The interface is a VCT2000. Used ones go for over $1000.00 when you can find them. I do notice that a number of Chinese suppliers have reverse engineered them but they are looking to sell them wholesale in bulk. It could be that we could get them for a couple of hundred dollars in the future. There is one of the fake ones on eBay right now with a buy it now of $1495.00.

Sounds like a group buy, once we can get them for a decent price.
