Hello all, perhaps you folks may be able to help me with this.
I have an 1997 850 with no sunroof. At the top drivers side of the rear window near the C pillar I have water getting into the vehicle. I can see the corner of the headliner near the top corner of the rear window where it meets the plastic trim covering the C pillar is wet when it rains.
If the car is parked with it's nose slightly uphill the water will run down the C pillar onto the rear speaker mounting deck and then drip into the trunk. If the car is parked with the nose downhill it appears to run down the C piller, down the side of the rear seat into the footwell.
I thought the rubber gasketing at the top of the rear window in that corner looked suspect and was not perfectly flush with the metal of the roof, so I used some automotive window sealer and put a bead in this corner. I also noticed the end cap that is on the blackplastic strip on the roof was not positioned the same as the one on the passenger side, so I lifted it up and where it overhangs the rear of the roof into the channel where the rear window sits I put some more window sealer down and inch or two into the crevice on the top/side corner of the rear window. I suppose a picture would help here.
Anyhow it's raining again today and I still have exactly the same problem.
Now seeing how this bead of goup is in the corner of the window I would be amazed if water was still getting in there and somehow flowing uphill to get the headliner wet.
I'm wondering now if the black roofline strip that covers the weld between the roof and side of the car is somehow leaking. The black plastic/rubber covering the aluminum strip in this weld joint is not fully intact, but I'm still wondering could the weld joint leak? If so how do you get this strip of material out without destroying it?
I like the car but this problem is driving me nuts, the car stinks. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
