Driving with the wastegate disconected.

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Driving with the wastegate disconected.

Post by Japedo »

Hey everyone, I was fiddiling around tonight with my MBC as I just got a new intercooler and can build boost now. After I had it setup I decided I'd just remove it and see how the car works with the wastegate staying closed.
I know that was probably a stupid thing to do, but i'd never hit fuel/ignition cutoff before. The car sure pulls hard with the little vacume hose off the wastegate and it still wasn't cutting off. Deffinently likes spinning the tires more.
After a couple test runs I put the MBC back in place.
Just wondering what the negtive consequences could be of running the car with the wastegate stuck close. ??? All I know is it worked good and wasn't cutting out so maybe it could handle it for a while.
THankis for everyones opinion on this, and yes I may be an idiot

Don't do it- in the upper torque area, there is a chance your computer won't be able to compensate and you could detonate you engine.

THanks for the info MIJ. I kind of thought that I would damage something by building boost to quickly down low. Didn't think it was a problem on the top end.
Oh well sure did some good burnouts. :D

hahaha, ya gotta love a good explosion. I have the car working just as good with the mbc as I did with the wastegate dissconected. However I am unable to hit ignition/fuel shutdown from excessive boost.
I think my problem/boost leak may be my compressor bypass valve. Maybe my diaghram is leaking. I hear a "ch ch ch" when I cut throttle. As apposed to a slight whoosh.
any ideas???

It could be, but what is you boost gauge goin up to at full boost. Fuel cut was around 13 PSI on my 940T with the stock MAF.

well, unfortunantley all I have is the stock gage. It's boosting to about 80% of the white. BUt usually drops down to about 2/3 of the white zone.
I find I am able to hold a higher longer boost with about 3/4 throttle as apposed to wide open.
Deffinently going to need a cheap boost gage to get some actuall numbers.

Get yourself a boost gauge, even if you just borrow it from a friend. Once you have the numbers, let us know.
