Volvo Repair Database Compartment under glove box is broken.

Post by Brucebo »

Don't know what it's called. On my '99 S70, under the glove box there is an open compartment for holding maps, etc. This module has two plastic front brackets that are held to the dash by two torx screws. One of these brackets has broken off. I'm thinking of repairing it with glue, screws and sheet metal, but if I can buy a new one for cheap I might go that route, but I don't know what it's called.

Mine broke off in a similar fashion.

I super-glued it together at the seam.

Then, I got some drywall mud tape to use as reinforcement on the front and back, then slathered it all with a very thin coat of JB Weld.

It seems to be holding just fine now.

I purchased a galvanized sheet metal shingle from Home Depot and cut some reinforcement backing from it for the tabs and JB Welded them on. The glue didn't stick well but I reinforced it with some #4 machine screws and nuts. See attached photographs.

Did the gluing operation work successfully? I need to do the same. Looking at taking it into have done by a mechanic and follow your repair advice. Possible to send details if any on procedures? Thanks.

You can just screw it in, no need to glue
If you want a good one, perfect and with solid tabs, I think I still have one in tan from the 2000 I just parted out
$25 plus shipping (if I can find it)
