New to the forums and im a bit of an engine noob so please go lightly on me
I got an S40 2005 1.8 petrol SE just short of a year ago and got a few problems/niggles at present. Its coming to the end of the 1 year Olympic warranty I got with it when purchasing it second hand so I am thinking I really need to get things sorted. Its got 90,000 miles on it now. Apart from the few niggles now I love the car.
I'll break it down as some may be related problems I am not sure.
Problem 1
On startup in the morning most notable get like a hissing noise sounds like a piston front right of the engine from where the driver is sitting. I took it to nationwide autocenter and stook it in over night yesterday and they started it up said there is a common problem with the alternator belt of some sort and replaced it. It sounds slightly better but this morning it was back but not quite as bad. Its worse when its damp but it seems to wear in and go away the noise as though it heats up. Its sometimes quite loud and makes the car sound rough.
Problem 2
The car often doesnt like being fired back up when its been running not so long ago. Its like it doesnt fire at times. Stop and rego and it fires up. Its as though sometimes its struggling to fire but it does eventually. Had it serviced to try and solve this a few months ago replacing the plugs but it hasnt gone away. It happened yesterday not long after picking up from garage. Went to shops was in there about 15 minutes and came out went to start and just didnt fire even though it kept trying. Stopped for 1 second tried again and it stuttered up and then away it went.
Problem 3
Getting a clunk feedback through clutch peddle as though something is whacking against it when going up from 1st to 2nd at slow speed. Not sure about this one but certainly feel like its happening more and more.
Problem 4
Throwing this one in as someone might know.
When got the car was driving down the motorway and decided to try the cruise control. Hit the button and the car then brought up low performance message on the screen and the car just started grinding to a hault. It was as if no power in the accelerated. Very scarey on a motorway so much so never tried it again. Pulled it up and turned the engine off. Restarted and away it went. It completely freaked us as going at high speeds and that happening isn't a nice experience.If anyone has any ideas at all about these I would appreciate your replies. Im thinking about sticking it in at Mill Volvo on Scotswood Road in Newcastle this weekend. Really want to keep the car but want these problems sorted/solved first.
