Volvo S80 T6 Smokes

Post by Abels80 »

Hey all, I am looking at buying a 2001 S80 T6 and have a question to anyone who can help. The car runs good and is in great shape. The problem is that the owner says it needs a P.C.V.Valve and this is why the car smoke really bad from the exhaust. Now I am no volvo expert but I do tinker with cars and have never seen a P.C.V.Valve cause this problem. The thing is, is that I am not familiar with the twin turbo set up and wonder if this could be the problem. any help is appreciated before i buy. Thanks in advance for any help..AbelS80...!

They do not have a PCV valve, they have an "oil trap" system, which is a plastic tank located on the front of the engine under the intake manifold. These clog up with sludge after a while and need to be cleaned or replaced.

The smoke could be caused by a number of different things. If it's just the oil trap, yes, you can have it fixed for about $800. But if it's something else, like bad valve guide seals or worn piston rings it will cost a lot more.

If it were me, I would have the car inspected by a reputable shop to determine what the problem really is, or just pass on the purchase.
