is it possible to turn a V70R into an XC (suspension)

Post by TheViking »

I currently have a beat up 850 Turbo Wagon, that is getting ready to be replaced.
I really like the idea of an XC70, with better clearance, but I don't want a sluggish car.
So I was toying with the idea of getting a few years old V70R AWD and if possible install the springs from an XC70, etc. Would this be possible??
I might be sacrilegious here, but I would install the roof rails too.
Anyone done stuff like this?
I like to be able to accelerate when needed, I want a vehicle I can throw ski's, snowboard, Kayak, etc on top. I like the interior from the R, much better too!
Any thoughts, suggestions, etc. are appreciated...

I'm sorry I can't answer your post. But I wanted to add my thoughts: I'm in full agreement. I'd enjoy a driver-controlled ride height adjustment for rutted or washboard roads, or snow. A V70R with this would be a dream car.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Adjustable would be awesome!
Nevertheless, I would be happy with just getting a bit higher ride height and less risk of body damage if I encountered some less than perfect driving conditions!
Guess I have to keep searching on the subject, before I can make a decision!

I can, NO!
The main reason being is the R's 4C suspension.
You could try to install the springs, (AWD/XC springs will fit) but the shocks are R specific and no other shock works, therefore, they would be in an extended position and may not work too well plus the SUM, which is the 4C computer, will probably not "set" because of the higher ride height!
When that occurs the headlights (which are connected to this system) won't come "up" and will be pointed down, error codes galore, etc, etc.
When some of us lower an R with certain springs the same thing happens. In in that case we know how to "fool" the computer, but raising the R, I don't think so!
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP
