Transmission...struggles to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear

Hey everyone...
I'm having one heck of a time with my 1993 960 wagon again...
It is having a VERY difficult time changing gears, especially from 2nd to 3rd. (tranny is automatic, not manual) The fluid level is fine, and the fluid itself didn't look very dirty. Could the trans filter being dirty be the problem?
Initially, when I changed from the 'everyday' transmission setting to the 'sport' setting, the car seemed to shift itself easier, but now, that is just about as bad...
Does anyone have ideas/suggestions?

Have you checked for any fault codes in the transmission? Some of the fault codes show a check engine light and some don't.
