Post by 19421946 »

I have a1993 940 non turbo.Has been a very good car till 1 month ago.
It was stalling on the road. I drove it to my mechanic shop( who is not a volvo mechanic). He replaced the ECM/ECU (a used one) The car would not start. Then he replaced the Ignition Module(used one) and still the car won't start. Your help you be much appreciated.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

Your car is fitted with an On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) in the engine compartment. Using this you, or your mechanic, can check for any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that have been set.

As your mechanic is not Volvo trained he probably didn't know this but it is a first step when diagnosing one of these beasts.

This link will take you to how to use the OBD. It is in the 4th post: OBD.
The basics are the same for the 240 and the 940. Some of the codes are different and you can ignore the following on the fuel system test 1-2-2; 1-5-4; 2-2-2; 2-3-3; 3-2-1. On the ignition system test add 2-4-1 EGR system and 4-3-1 EGR temperature sensor fault.

If you need any more info post back.

Bill.
