S80 T6 antifreeze issue
S80 T6 antifreeze issue
Hello, I have a 1999 S80 T6 that I have to keep adding anti freeze to, it keeps throwing it from the over flow hose and then It tells me that it is low on anti freeze. It does not over heat and it is not mixing with my oil or transmission fluid, the cooloing fan does come on but I have noticed that it does not stay running after I turn of the car, you can feel the heat from the motor area and it smells like anti freeze. Any Ideas or help would be appreciated. I have also looked for a radiator cap to see if it is old but am not able to find one, other then the green plastic cap on the plastic tank you fill it up at. I have looked for a repair manual and am not able to find one do they make one for this model? Thanks in advance for any help.

That green cap could be cracked or not sealing well or the over-flow hose is not connected? Or, if it is connected, is leaking or not connected well to the thermostat housing. Also, you can pull the over-flow thank up and out of the car and inspect the seams along side the bottom. You are loosing coolant somehow and I suspect a leak in one of the hoses or the over-flow tank itself.

Radiator cap or bottle issue. Order them together and replace soon.
Not to scare but
Your motor is overheating - that is why it is throwing the coolant. The lack of pressure is causing the antifreeze to boil over . The sensors do not read the boiling fluid well due to the air content. The sensor is most likely not showing the correct temp due to the air or the thermostat not working correctly due to the air.
The air bubble isolate heat and thus effect the temp sensor and thermotat.
I would replace the bottle and the cap ( do not overtighten) right away

This one struck a nerve!
I have a leak on the top of my expansion reservoir about 1/8". I've purchased a new one w/cap for ~$70 locally.
I cannot see what is holding the power steering fluid reservoir in place which is restraining me from lifting it high enough to replace the coolant jug [appears to be trapped in place only by the PS reservoir].
Has anyone noticed a How-To on this or any other forum. Local dealer wants .75 hrs. labor to install. I'm wondering if it's really that hard or whether I can do it myself. Even if it takes me twice as long, it would still be worth it to restore my mechanical pride since I walked out confidently past the service-writer with the parts.
Cheers,
Norm

Once you get all the leaks taken care of, make sure you have the right coolant.
I had a similar problem, didn't have any leaks, but the coolant would bubble out after driving. I kept refilling with the "one color does it all" stuff, which turned out to be a bad move.I had the system flushed and replaced at a local shop with the "Volvo Blue", and the problem seems to have gone away.
