960 Ignition Coil Packs waterproof

Post by bright »

1995 960

Hello,
I was monkeying with my 960. As you fellow sufferers of 960's know, they have distributorless (sp?) ignition. The coils are over the spark plugs themselves.

I was removing the harness plug from one of them with great difficulty. I noticed that when it finally came out of the ignition coil the harness was covered with what appears to be a brown beeswax like substance. I imagine that it waterproofs the connections without conducting electricity.

I would like to re-waterproof this again, but cannot figure out how without removing the substance and reapplying it. I assume it is a or a high melting point polymer.

Has anyone had experience with this?

Thanks,
Lee
Many Thanks,
Bright

I have just waterproofed the coil packs on my daughter's Renault Espace, a truly horrible car, using Holt's Damp Start. I have used this on all of my cars for years but was dubious about its efficiency on coil packs.

With our very damp Autumnal weather she was having more trouble than usual getting the heap started. A liberal dose of Damp Start has cured it. I shall do it again in a couple of months, if necessary, but usually one treatment per year is enough.
