740 1991 heated seats dont work
this car is very old but i was still wondering if the heated seats would work. it is the base model sedan version non-turbo and currently has 127,000 miles on it the seats havent worked since i got it 3 years ago 91,000 miles its not the fuse i already checked that and the light on the switch dosesnt even light up when i flip it. is there any other place to look or is my wiring just gone? if you have anyother questions about the car just ask

The light in the switch not working could be a bad bulb or it could indicate that there is no power coming through to the switch or that the earth (ground) is bad. The switches and the seat heaters share a common earth beneath the centre console. You can test this using a multimeter or ohmmeter. First check for continuity from the black wire on the switch to the earth point under the centre console. Then check that the earth point is good by putting one lead on it and the other lead to a good, unpainted part of the car. If this reads continuity the earth point is good. When I am testing these earth points I usually use the screw that holds in the courtesy light switch on the door frame.
If you have a multimeter or voltmeter you can check for 12 volts on the red/black wire at the switch. That is the input from the fuse box. If you have 12v there check for 12v at the white/black wire. If you have 12v there the switch is OK so you probably have a burned out heater element or a bad connection under the seat. How far do you want to go?
Bill.
