S60 T5 2003 faulty aircon, replace ECC?

Post by LouisS60 »

Hi All,

The aircon in my 2003 S60 2.4T is behaving weird for quite some time now. After some reading on this forum and other I went to the dealer to recalibrate the climate control system and have the sensor(s) cleaned, of no help however. The problem:
After about 10 mins drive the vents start blowing less air, going to a full stop after about 10 more minutes and doesn't come up again. Airco is on and system on automatic. If I turn off the engine for about 5 mins the cycle starts over again, instead of turning off the engine if I manualy turn the fan on maximum for 20-30 sec the cycle starts again. Behaviour is quite consistent but different when outside temperature is lower then desired inside temperature. The car is warming up for the first 10 mins and then cold air is coming for the next 10 (till it stops again). After turning the fan to max only cold air is coming into the car.
Above only happens when aircon is switched on. If I switch it off the climate control is working as it should be (cooling when it needs to cool as well as heating when it needs to heat) without above behaviour.

I finaly took my car to the dealer today and have the system checked. By trial and error (using parts from show room cars) they found the ECC was mal functioning.... another 1000 Euro to replace!

Does it make sense looking for a used ECC?

thanks,
Louis
