Brake Light Bulb Holder 2001 V70 T5

Bulb on left side brake light burned out. The holder appears to have melted slightly and chipped both bulb holder and socket into which it locks. Does this mean a complete new tailight housing? It looks like it should lock in, but my hands are too big as are my wife's. Is there a "trick" to replacing these bulb holders?

I hate it for you, but I would think the entire housing- you may get lucky at a junk yard for less than buying a new one, even from an on-line vendor. Wonder what it was that made it melt?
