de-activated cruise control - 2004 V70
I just purchased a 2004 V70 from the original owner. They had the cruise control "de-activated" by the dealer. Anyone have any idea what might have been done or how a professional would handle this job? Is it software related?

They're full of crap, it's broken.
Who in their right mind would (if possible) deactivate a cruise control, you just don't use it!

Yes, the horn and radio controls do work. Is there a way to disconnect the hot wire that turns on the cruise? Does that left hand panel on the wheel with the cruise controls come off easily? I sure don't want to activate tha air bag. Thank you for your help. [email protected]
If your radio controls are working, it probably means that you don't have a canbus controller failure or lockup, which can usually be fixed by just resetting the car--disconnect the battery for 15 mins, turn the car back on w/the key in pos. II. You might want to just try that anyhow, it's easy.buffnitty wrote:Yes, the horn and radio controls do work. Is there a way to disconnect the hot wire that turns on the cruise? Are you getting any error messages?
If not, then it might just be the switch which isn't too hard to replace. If you just disconnect the switch you might get an error code when the car does its power on checks. Any of this should have nothing to do with the air bag, although when you are messing around with the steering wheel you want to avoid static discharges for that reason. Disconnecting the battery and waiting 15 mins is a good thing, too, eliminates possibly throwing an error code when a circuit is interrupted.
These instructions should help you check/replace the switch.
