240 DL 1990 red arrow light.

I just had oil changed yesterday on my car, not sure if this issue is related, or just the fact that another person has been driving the car and may have pushed a button somewhere? This red arrow light is continuously on and in the far right corner of the dash next to the bulb light. (btw I have turn signal issues and rear light bulb issues frequently, not sure if related....)

Has the car got an overdrive? have a look at the gear selector on the auto box cars its a small push button on the side of the knob, on the manual box cars it should be a switch in the top of the gear knob from what I remember of the 200 series - Mike

BLOWREY, welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

As Mike says the arrow light is the overdrive 'Off' indicator light on the auto transmission. On the manual transmission it is the shift indicator light. This is an economy measure and tells the driver when to change gear.

On the auto box if 4th gear is disengaged (indicator light illuminated) when the engine is switched off, the transmission will revert automatically to 4-speed operation (indicator light not illuminated) when the engine is restarted. If this hasn't happened there may be a problem.

It won't be related to turn signal nor rear light bulb issues.
