Volvo Repair Database Molyslip and Ceramic Oil

Post by IVIUSTANG »

Hi guys,

In my manual it clearly states not to put ANY additives into the engine oil on my 1998 S70 T5. In my old 1986 Escort however I used a product called Molyslip, a mixture of molybdenum and oil. It greatly helped with dry starting, no top end rattles etc. I also found that it made my engine extremely quiet, there is no doubt in my mind that this product does in fact coat metal surfaces and greatly reduces friction. I could even run my Escort with the oil low light on with no noise after I used this product.

I always run a synthetic oil of some sort in my car, but am interested in: http://www.speedtuningusa.com/products/ ... 0.html#Oil

as well as: http://www.molyslip.com/Products/MolySlipE.html

Any reasons why I should avoid these? I know manuals aren't always perfect regarding maintenance etc and often have an agenda to make the manufacturer post sale revenue.

Why would you do that?
Ambitious but rubbish

It was never intentional, as it aged it leaked more and more oil out the seals, depending on how I drove it. The oil light also came on when i was cornering hard when it was low. I was merely stating that Molyslip made it impossible to tell when my engine oil was low without physically checking(made the low oil racket indistinguishable from the normal oil level noise) . Yes it was a worn out car with 380,000 KM on it, reliable nonetheless.

Despite the fact that the manuals say not to use additives, a lot of people swear by them. A little bit ago there was a long discussion about fuel additives. As far as adding additives to your oil, if you feel you need it then do it...if there is no apparent need for it then I suggest staying away from additives.

I use Molyslip in my car and it works great - I say use additives.

Glad to see someone else is using Molyslip, didn't know there were a lot of us.

I've used Molyslip for years in my engines. I believe in the product and like to think I'm not some duped fool. Recently I was actually starting to reconsider whether I should keep using it. It's more expensive then it used to be (although still cheaper than some). Anyways over the summer I was getting close to my scheduled oil change but was holding off until the weekend. I checked the dipstick and I had plenty of oil. I went to pick my brother up on the friday and he said the engine sounded a little funny. I hadn't noticed from inside the car and it seemed to be running fine. So I got out checked the dipstick, it's bone dry!!

Obviously panic set in (this is on my 01 BMW 530, my baby). So I go and grab some oil dump it in and take it to the mechanics the next day. Turns out there was a seal that needed to be replaced and probably the reason for the rapid oil loss. No damage to the engine as far as he can tell. Pretty amazing considering it was summer which meant warm weather, A/C on and I wasn't exactly obeying all posted limits.

Anyways I'm pretty sure that using the product helped protect the engine.

Anyone used this in a turbocharged vehicle? Forget the supposed added lubricity of this product, I want it for cold dry starts as well as a longer time to notice a oil pressure drop. No question it made the top end of my old car 100% quiet at start up and low oil levels. As for the ceramic oil I can hardly find any information regarding it apart from the website I linked to; any experience?

Interesting, I hadn't really thought the process through before you asked the question. I use E in both my cars, one being my S70 T5, and have never had any problems with my engine. But the turbo question got me thinking and it's probably even better to use this stuff in turbo engines. If you ever go booting around and turn your car off with the turbo still spinning your essentially stopping the oil pump. If there's no oil there's no lubrication, based on my understanding at least. With the Molyslip E there the molybdenum will provide the lubrication even without the oil there. If you read my post about losing the oil completely plus this I say that much more reason to have it ;)

Why adding molybdenum additive in oil when you can buy oil with that additive in it.It's Liqui Moly Mos2 leichtlauf 10w-40 semi-synthetic oil.

Excellent oil,i have it in my engine  !
