whrilling noise in drive in 2000 xc 70
When my car is moving I can hear a whrilling noise comming fron the rear. I notice that when the car slows down the noise decreases. The tranny has been serviced in April, does anyone have a ideal, my wife drives it and she's becomming a pain in the rear, about the noise. Brother needs help.

Could be a sticking brake caliper so the pas are scraping against the rotor causing a whirring noise.

I would have a look underneath the rear center where the differential is, and check for any evidence of oil leaking out. If that unit runs dry on oil due to a bad seal, then it will self destruct very soon.

Lifting the car so that you can rotate the rear tires and have a listen can tell you a lot.
Sounds like it could be as simple as a pebble in the brakes.
They get caught between the rotor and the dust shield and
can make all kinds of nasty, scraping sounds.
Sometimes just reaching through the rim with a big screwdriver
or pry bar and gently moving the shield away from the rotor at
the bottom edge will allow the offending foreign object to fall out.
The emergency brake shoes and associated hardware can also cause problems.
If it sounds like the E brake, just remove the rim and the rotor/E-brake drum
to inspect the E-brake shoes and other moving parts in there.
