V70 XC, 2001, Airbag warning

Post by JohnR »

I changed an illumination light in the heating module the other day, and now there is an error message saying the SRS Airbag system is faulty.
The instructions said to place the gear lever in D in order to remove the module, but in order to leave the gear lever in D I had to leave the key in the ignition, and in position 1. I suspect this is causing the SRS fault -- am I right? For the next time, how does one put the gear lever in D, and remove the key -- or at least have it off?
Am I facing a major situation with this fault?
Thanks

Having the key on while unplugging and plugging in the Climate Control Module will cause the SRS fault warning to appear. BTDT. SRS can only be reset by the dealership.

Thank you for that news.

Question: If the instructions say that the gear lever must be in D in order to swing this module from its mounting, how does one have the gearshift in D and have the key off at the same time? Disconnect the battery - after 10 min?

What instructions where?

I had the dealer print me the appropriate pages from his computer. They were very specific on the first page (of about 5) - the key must be in the off position. That I understand, but to get the gear lever into D so the unit can be swung out from the bottom, one needs to have the key in the ignition and not in the off position.
Thanks

Disconnect the battery first, negative lead with the key in KPI position. Wait a few minutes, go about your business, put key in KPII position wait a few minutes and reconnect the battery. Depending on where you live you may be able to find a indy Volvo shop to reset the SRS light cheaper than the dealer. The BSR PPC diagnostic scanner will reset the light but its about 180-200 bucks, but use it twice and that is about equal to two trips to the dealer.
