1998 Volvo V70 Using oil

Post by andymwhitehead »

I bought a used Volvo V70 with several issues. Most have been addressed, i hope. Have some left which need guidance on. Little history. When I bought car it was dripping oil out of intercooler hose fitting and seemed like the turbo was leaking oil around gasket. Figured new turbo and hose repair into car price etc. While repairing car after we bought it we found root cause was the engine was "coked" up and couldn't breathe. Engine was building up pressure and forcing oil out of any orifice it could etc. Dip stick had white guke build up. (condensation build up) A lot pipes etc were cleaned / replaces and carbon build up removed. This seemed to fix the oil leaks (drips). There are now no visible leaks which drip on floor. Car does not visble appear to be burning oil during start up or while ruunning. However, I am using oil about a quart every 1000 miles approx. Residual oil appears to be in air intake pipes where air pump solenoid is mounted on radiator shroud. (may pe prior to decoking not sur?) I still have a an engine error code P0108 Map sensor from day one. Code did clear after decoke and remained off for 100 miles. Plan on changing this out unless anyone says this is not root cause for engine error code. I would guess the MAP is not responsible for oil. I am adding a quart of marvel mystery oil (approved oil to help flush motor going forward). Any one have ideas on what else may need to be cleaned / flushed to let engine breathe more than we may have done. Will do a compression test on all cyclinders. Car drives great when warm. Now weather is getting colder it runs rough (10-15mins) and then runs smooth again (MAP sensor issue?)

I was loosing almost a quart a week when my PCV was clogged. I ended up replacing it in about 3 hours and the car ran so much better. I still had a small leak in the oil cooler line but my major leak stopped once the PCV was done.
