Considering an 03 XC70

Post by jakesv »

I am looking at a 2003 XC70 with about 80K with the understanding that the 2002 and earlier P2 cars had well documented issues (stay away). The car in question is one owner with the service history available. I was surprised by the previous issues with this car: Fuel Pump & sending unit @9K, PS reservoir @ 15K, radiator, angle gear case seals @44K, Inner tie rods, turbo return line seals, another PS reservoir at 70K. I suppose on the + side, the maintenance history is complete and the owner kept the car in good repair. Price is in the 12K. range, negotiable. Are these common issues with these cars and just part of the volvo experience?

I have an 03 XC70 and have had none of the problems you state. I have had some transmission hickups. I replaced the fluid and have had good luck since, I would recommend doing this asap and on a regular schedule. I have some dash readout problems but nothing I can't deal with-the clock sometimes scrolls without warning, the diognostic readout sometimes goes haywire and sometimes the bright lite indicator doesn't work. My car has 130, xxx on it, I bought it used and I am very happy with it. I do repairs myself because I am able to and the dealer repairs are VERY expensive. If you are not able to work on your vehicle yourself you might not want this car.
