ETM replacement in the SF Bay Area

Post by rabbitvolvo »

I believe the ETM in my 1999 V70 GLT is failing, it has all the symptoms found throughout Don's ETM room... hunting idle, a downshifting feeling when coming of the highway, and near stalls. I'm not the original owner of the car, but it looks like the ETM has been replaced before because it has a yellow sticker on it. Unfortunately, I'm out of the warranty period.

My question, can anybody recommend a repair shop in the San Francisco Bay area to get it fixed? Preferably somewhere in the South Bay... but for good service and the right price, I am willing to travel..! I'd really prefer to not take it to the local Volvo dealership.

I've thought about getting it cleaned instead of replacing it... but, thanks to the posts by everyone on this forum, I have a feeling that I'm going to have to replace it down the road anyway, so I may as well get it fixed now and save the cleaning cost.

Thanks in advance!
Andrew

call XeMODeX in Canada at 1-888-712-2525. They rebuild Volvo etm's and have a repair dealer in SF area, could be Santa Rosa. Just told me this today. They are a real class operation . Check online and you'll find great input re their quality etm's

Andrew:

My 1999 S70 GLT started to show all ETM symptoms listed in this forum, except the idle hunting part. I replaced MAF but the problem continues. I am about to order XeMODeX to fix this problem. Did you eventually find a mechanic to remove and install the ETM for you? Like you, I also prefer the SF South Bay, since I live in San Jose. Thanks,

Andy
