Greetings on and all. I am the proud second owner of a 2000 S40. With 105K on the clock, I did the timing belt, along with all the usual things to go with it: Water pump, Tensioner, Idler. Honestly, this was a straight forward thing as timing belts go. I was able to keep everything on mark using the provided marks, plus my own for quick reference. The car started in the first crank and drove well. The "Check Engine" light came on within 30 seconds. I scanned using a Snap-on Solus unit and had to go in via Global OBDII. I got "propritary code" back when I scanned.
I reset the system and drove the car for about 10 miles. Resonce is good, no noise, hesitation, nothing. Shut the car off, clean up the garage, start the car and the light came back on....again, propritary code.
Each time, there has been no number. I checked with the Snap-On Manual. I had the correct key in the block where it goes in the diagnostic port (#20).
This car starts easier cold and hot not that the belt is changed. Power is there, and yes, I put new plugs in....E3's.
Any ideas anyone? I have checked, rechecked and had a friend second guess me. (ASE Certified). I also reset the tensioner according to the ambient temp of the engine according to the instructions.
If anyone has a idea of what I may have done wrong or has run aground on this before, I would be happy to hear what you did to correct this.
I can be reached at [email protected]. List Volvo S40 in the subject line.
If this doesn't work, the armour piercing ammo will get tested on the enging block.
Best,
