As I was replacing my strut after putting in a new mount I was using my jack to push up the lower A arm to bolt on the strut. I already had the lower bolt in place when the jack slipped out. The strut pushed out the lower mount which in turn pushed out the end of the axle from the outer CV joint .
I pulled back the boot to see about putting the axle back in. I initially tried to just push it back in with the C-clip in place (as it obviously had come out with the c-clip in place), but couldn't get enough purchase on the greasy driveshaft to overcome the presence of the C-clip. I removed it and the axle slid in nicely. But I knew I needed to put the clip back in.
My question: Is there a better (intelligent) way to press the axle with the C-clip into the CV joint or should I put the axle in without it and try to put th eclip back in from the other side somehow?
