2002 S80 shock longevity??

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2002 S80 shock longevity??

Post by chrisbruck »

How long do the shocks really last under normal (non-sporty) driving?

I've got a non-turbo with about 104k on it. I know on some cars they last forever and on some they crap out pretty quick. Not real sure what the Volvo's are good for. Mine seem fine right now but I have to pull them out to fix a broken upper spring mount on the passenger side and am wondering if it's worth the money to replace the shock while it's all apart.

I can't really say how long they last, but it is much easier to replace the front struts when you're doing the mounts. I did mine a couple years back when replacing a broken mount and I'm glad I did. I bought KYB replacements, which you can find at pretty reasonable prices. Interestingly, I saw this listing on E-Bay for Koni replacements http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VOLVO-SH ... ccessories. These usually cost considerably more. They do require a bit more work, as you have to cut your existing strut housings and install these into them.

Good luck!

Mine were pretty much shot at 73K miles, which is when I had the struts and shocks replaced. Made a helluva difference. She rides like a brand new car now.
