I have tried to get info on an alleged oil blockage service bulletin my parts guy made me aware of (and sold me parts for) but have been unsuccessful. I have significant carbon buildup in the oil sump and am trying to find the main parts to clean.
So far I have cleaned the sump, oil pickup strainer, oil pump, oil cooler tube, passage from the oil trap to the sump.
The oil cooler seems ok, but...
I can not find the oil trap, it is probably buried in the front of the engine. Is there instructions somewhere on the trap, and the rest of the system that is likely to collect sludge?

I'm guessing that your oil pressure light is going on and off?
If that is the case, you do have to pull the oil pan but it is not because of sludge. The pick-up tube for the oil pump has a seal on it, that seal will start to fail and allow air to enter the system. This will cause the oil pressure to go up and down and the light to go on. Buy an oil pan o-ring kit pn 30750783, two o-rings for the oil cooler pn 30637339 and some of that chemical gasket pn 1161059. That will be all you need to get it back together.
PS - A good way to check for this problem is to check your oil while the car is running, if you have bubbles on your dipstick there is a leak somewhere.
