Volvo v40 estate 1999 engine light doesnt go out

my volvo v40 the engine light does not go out but the engine runs great and everything seems ok what could be the problem?

By engine light do you mean the battery charge light or the check engine light?

If it is the first then your alternator is probably not charging. If it is the second, fault codes have been set in the system and they need to be read using a scanner.
