Many of the southern states here do that already, it has long been a law in North Carolina, but recently Virginia (and SC?) started it as well. I think it's a law in Pennsylvania as well. I too have seen people pulled over for it. I make it a matter of habit to move over for people on the side of the road anyway, so it was something I already did before I even knew about it. You'd be amazed at the number of people up North that won't even move over to let you out onto the highway.
They'll seriously try to get you for anything they can. I once got pulled over and questioned for "going in a circle", no lie. And for trying to avoid an accident with a police office who pulled out in front of me.
Now, if only they could make a law to keep left lane campers out of the passing lane...or to make Prius drivers go the speed limit

Florida does the same thing, they are a bit lax on it, but if they pull you over... you are screwed. buddy of mine got a 800$ and they strip searched his car.. aka. THEY GUTTED IT.
on the side of the road, and told him to put it back together and left.
On a stupid note...
Ive been pulled over for GET THIS... *Running a green arrow*
Apparently in my city, if you have a green arrow it does not mean you can turn. it means you must wait for the lane on the other side of the road to empty.
I only got warned.

Wow some of the other states are kinda getting out of hand.. Oregon has a big issue with Local and country officers sitting at night with out any lights on what so ever most of them are solid black. what i love is that Oregon Law Requires all Publicly owned Vehicles aka all the police cruisers to have their lights on at all times regardless of visibility for their safety and yet i always see them sitting on the side of the road or in the median with no lights on. I have to admit Oregon State Police are my Favorite, When they pull you over and you seem like you honestly didn't know and your nice to them. then they tend to let you go with a warming. but 400+ fine is just stupid! I believe Oregon's fine is 150ish.

If you think about it though, an officer standing on the driver's side of a car he pulled over, will be very close to traffic. Any slip-up or distraction on the part of a driver could lead to a disaster.
While the fines may be a bit excessive, the law makes sense.

Glenco- I actually got pulled over by a police cruiser, I believe he was unmarked, Sitting in a ditch with no lights on at about 4am.. so it was nearly pitch black. AND he had a black car.
Haha my luck rocks!
Unfortunately at the time I could have gotten away with it because in Florida, that voids the ticket. aswell as the fact my speedo was broken would have also gotten me off. After about 40mph it gives me wrong readings, about 5-10 under what im actually going.
that said... 22 over when my speedo read maybe 5 over. haha. Ooops.

Is it law here? I hadn't noticed, and I've never seen anyone get stopped.
I just move over if it's possible, or slow down and crowd the lane to the left if there's no opening.
Cops here are usually too busy looking for maniacs, drunks, and teenagers. Show 'em you're paying attention and being careful, and they move on to someone else. Especially for Volvo and Grand Marquis owners...
Think about it, if they pulled people over for every violation, they would literally stop the first car they saw after getting back into their cruiser. It could take them all day to make a single trip from the NH border to 128, meanwhile people are flying by at 90 while they're writing a ticket for going 60 in a 55.
Then the judge would laugh them right out of the courtroom.
Now if only we could get the Prius owners to step on it...

Good thing the officer only warned you, what you did isn't illegal, and stopping you was without basis (at least from what you reported). A green arrow does not mean that. Florida adopted the 2003 Federal MUTCD (Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices) by Rule 14-15.010, F.A.C. What that means is that a green arrow indicates a protected movement for that particular lane--i.e., your lane has a green left-pointing arrow, you are granted right-of-way to turn left as if you had a green ball indication. (4D.06 MUTCD). If it's a doghouse signal, with a red ball burning while you have a green arrow, then, according to the 2009 Florida driver's handbook "A green arrow, pointing right or left, means you may make a turn in the direction of the arrow. If the red light is burning at the same time, you must be in the proper lane for such a turn and you must yield the right-of-way to vehicles and pedestrians within the intersection."RobTheModd wrote:On a stupid note...
