Turbo leak

Post by craig1104 »

Has anyone experience a turbo leak? When I accelerate I get a high/low whistle and in overdrive while climbing a hill when it needs a little more boost it bucks. Took it to the dealer and they think one of the turbo tubes might be leaking. Performance is great just the annoying high/low pitch whistling.

Yes, it sounds like a leak. Make sure all the tubes are in place properly and all the clamps are tightened down.

Well the shop foreman took a quick look at them after we took the vehicle for a test ride and saw nothing. So it's going in to the shop on Monday to fix the issue. Thanks for your input.

In my opinion sounds like maybe the turbo or turbo's (not sure if its 5 or 6 cylinder) is over-working and boosting too much. Then when you really get on it, it will over-boost and hit fuel cut. That whistle noise you hear could be the turbo boosting alot higher than it should. It might have a faulty turbo control valve. Just playing devils advocate.

here is the everlasting story, the dealer replaced the breather tube. Volvo redesigned the breather tube in 2006 for being loud and vapors. The whistling has decreased but is still noticable. Now the Dealer has contacted Volvo for assistance and waiting to hear from them.

UPDATE! the dealer just called me and they found that the right side turbo isn't functioning. Does any one know if I should have gotten a code for it? Does anyone think that they might be wrong?

Another UPDATE. Dealer tells me it take 13 hours of labor to replace the Turbo. Does anyone know if that is true?

Yeah that is BIG job to pull a turbo on a T6. I don't know exact time but yeah, it is close to 13 hrs. Thanks for getting back with the problem.

I would ask them to physically show you that the turbo is the problem. If you can reach in the opening and spin the turbine by hand, I doubt the turbo is the problem. If it's frozen, the turbo is bad and will need to be replaced/rebuilt. Be careful not to cut your fingers.
