S80 2.9 1999 How do I remove Parking Brake Boot?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 2.9 1999 How do I remove Parking Brake Boot?

Post by s80invancusa »

Our S80 has 132k miles. We did an overseas delivery and it's manufactured to US specs.

The vinyl is falling apart on the armrest and parking brake boot. We have the armrest figured out, but can't figure out how to get the boot off the parking brake. The upholstery shop thinks it's a couple hours to R&R the boot!

Thanks for the help!

The first part of this thread should get you started: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 0892#50892

Once you have the boot up, I'm not sure how to get it over the handle, other than just pulling it up and over the handle. If you figure that part out, please post back so we can add it to our "knowledge database."

Your instructions for getting the boot off worked well! (The label on the inside calls it a "gator.") When the upholstery shop tried to put new vinyl on the boot frame, they couldn't separate the plastic trim. The short version of the story is that I ended up buying the boot from the local Volvo dealer. They were able to check color with the VIN, and while they had to order it in, it only took a couple days. It was about $43. Putting it on was a piece of cake - they trickiest part was getting all the tabs in the right place. My suggestion for anyone with failing material on the boot or the console/arm rest is to just get new ones from the dealer and skip the upholstery shop. Thank you for your help!
