V70 T5 2001 WARNING LIGHT STILL APPEAR NO CAUSES

Post by thornockfamily »

I TEST DROVE A 2001 V70 T5 FROM A DEALERSHIP IN DECEMBER...AND I FELL IN LOVE. THE NEXT WEEK I BOUGHT IT IN CASH AND TOLD HIM I WOULD BE BACK THE NEXT MORNING TO PICK IT UP. WELL, SOME HOW WHEN THEY STARTED THE CAR TO BRING IT UP FRONT FOR ME, THE "SRS AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT" LIGHT CAME ON. HIS MECHANIC SAID THAT IT HAD A LOW POWER START FROM THE BATTERY BEING ALMOST DEAD. HE REPLACED THE BATTERY BUT THAT DIDNT SHUT THE SERVICE LIGHT OFF. THE DEALER SAID HE WOULD PAY FOR THE AUTO SHOP TO SHUT OFF OR RESET THE LIGHT.
THE NEXT DAY NOT ONLY WAS THE SRS AIRBAG LIGHT ON BUT THE DSTC SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON TOO. THE SHOP CHECKED ALL FUSES AND DIDN’T SEE ANYTHING WRONG. ALSO THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER COULDN’T FIND ANY THING WRONG.
THE DAY AFTER THE LIGHTS WERE FIXED, THE DSTC LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND HAS BEEN COMING ON AT RANDOM TIMES FOR NO APPEARENT REASON….ALMOST ON A DAILY BASIS.
COULD THIS BE A PROBLEM WITH WIRING OR A SENSOR SOME WHERE?
OR IS THIS A PROBLEM THAT’S GONNA COST ME AN ARM AND A LEG????

First off, take your cap locks off on your computer, it makes your post hard to read. A low or bad battery will make a car throw all kinds of error messages. Did the shop not reset the codes when they pulled them and was the shop that pulled the codes competent with Volvo's? Not every scanner will read these cars. Was the battery that was the replacement new or was it out of another car? I'd have my battery tested first along with the alternator and go from there. Start with simple things and go from there.

BATTERY IS OK. NEVER HAD LOW VOLTAGE SINCE THE DEALER TOOK THE OLD BATTERY AND PUT IN THE NEW ONE. THE AUTO SHOP IS VERY EXPERIENCED WITH VOLVO CARS, THEY ARE THE ONLY SHOP HE THAT DOES VOLVO! HE RESET THE CODES AND ALL WAS WELL TILL THE NEXT DAY. THE DSTC LIGHT CAME ON. IT WILL COME ON AND THEN 10 MIN LATER GO OFF, OR IT WONT GO OFF ALL DAY, OR SOMETIMES IT NEVER COMES ON. JUST WHEN EVER IT WANTS I GUESS.!
BUT MY HEAD LIGHTS SURGE AND SO DO THE DASH LIGHTS... A FAIRLY QUICK PULSE MAKES ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS GO DIM--BRIGHT--DIM--BRIGHT (MAYBE 30 PULSES A MIN. WHICH IS PRETTY FAST) AND ITS NOT LIKE A LITTLE CHANGE....ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO GO UNNOTICED...SO BAD THAT AT NIGHT IT MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS GOING ON?

Voltage surges. Measure the voltage at the battery. The alternator should put out a maximum of 14.7 volts when charging a 12 volt battery (faster than idle). I think the regulator is inside the alternator.
