My 940 has 116,000. I was driving it home over the weekend and heard some slight bang noise when I accelerated. My ear tells me that it might be a differential. The gears seemed to shift smoothly but pick up seemed slower than normal. Any ideas about the cause of the problem or what I should get checked out?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

We need a little more information.

"Bang" - was it an exhaust type bang or a metallic type bang?

Why do you think it is the differential?

Did you notice the slower pick up immediately after the bang or some time later?

Bill.
