Hello
Looks like I finally get to contribute something to the group.
I have a 2001 Volvo S80. Just got off the phone with volvo to see if all the recalls had been performed on the vehicle (ETM software - done; cooling fan - done).
The rep I spoke to informed me that there will be a fuel pump recall on these vehicles. It apparently has not been announced yet, so I dont have any details, but just something to watch the mailbox for
thanks again

My 2002 S80 had a bad gas fuel smell from the rear passenger side. Took it in for that and some other work. Was covered under the "recall" at no charge. It has something to do with the fuel pump. This was about 3-4 months ago.
Here's part of a letter I received from Volvo on the fuel pump issue:
"Volvo Cars of North America,LLC. (Volvo) has determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists in the fuel pump of certain model year 2001-2005 S80, 2001-2004 S60, V70, V70XC/XC70 and 2003-2005 XC90 vehicles.
...were originally sold, or are currently registered in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, District of Columbia and US territories...
...a specific version of the fuel pump can...develop cracks in the fuel pump flange. If the condition occurs you may notice fuel smell and/or fuel seepage...
...If your vehicle exhibits a fuel smell or any evidence of a leak, please contact your Volvo retailer immediately...
...If your vehicle does not experience any of these conditions, no further action is required by you at this time..."
This is a recall advisory, not a recall as yet. If I read the letter correctly, it is Advisory # P29075.
It goes on to say that there is a large amount of vehicles involved, so notifications will be done in stages.
Since this is from Volvo North America, I'm not sure what other non-US cars would be involved, if any.
If you smell or see fuel, by all means get it checked out right away. If it's a recall item, you're eligible for a free repair or reimbursement. If not, you're out some money, but you've taken care of a potentially bad situation.

VOLVO / V70 2001-2004

Hello, I made a note of a Volvo fuel pump recall phone # (866) 637-3774. I posted a # for repair refund claims at one time. Try a search. Kira

I find your post a little perplexing. I posted because I was specifically told by a Volvo rep on March 10, 2010, that my car would be part of an UPCOMING recall that had NOT been announced yet. I thought that information would be helpful to others (who have been helpful to me). This fact appears to be lost on you. Not quite sure how this posting negatively impacted you.
But...I actually did do a search. And, if you look at the initial recall notice that others have posted in reply to my initial post, you will note that not all 50 states are referenced in the letter. My car was initially purchased and registered in Michigan, one of the states not mentioned in the letter. Perhaps the recall is being expanded - I dont know. I was only forwarding information I received directly from Volvo. Now, if the Volvo rep misspoke, I still fail to see how you have been harmed.
However, and perhaps more importantly, I fail to see how your comment does anything but stifle conversation, set a tone that is the antithesis of community, and disregard the express rules of the forum. See, e.g., "Etiquette ... 5. Please be kind to other members. Let's keep this place flame- and attitude-free."
until the next time...
