Another Praise for FCP Groton!

Post by MadeInJapan »

Hey Everyone! Long time no see.
I know there's probably been a lot of speculation about why I've been away- don't worry- it's not because I hate you... I've had a ton of personal issues which have basically drained me from being productive in my life except for those "have-to" areas. Without going into any of that, I'd like to tell you just how up-standing FCP Groton is. Mike Rivera who is in customer support, especially deserves KUDO's from me!

My son wrecked his car in late Jan (hitting a guy, breaking his leg and messing up his and the other guy's car when he slid off the road on an ice patch- FCP has been able to supply just about all parts for his 850 too but this isn't about that), then my mother passed away suddenly, so I drove my '98 S70 to another state to attend her funeral and just be there with family. I made the trip fine but on the next day, going to the funeral home, as I was coasting down a hill, a cap that covers the tensioner pulley came off and fell in the timing belt path (yes, it was one of those INA pulleys from several years ago that was giving others fits) and caused my timing to jump. That bent all my intake valves and so I had the car towed back near home to have the cylinder head rebuilt with new valves. On a fluke I contacted FCP Groton and got Mike Rivera on the phone and explained that I had bought all of my timing parts from him in '07 (40K miles ago) when I did my timing belt change. Of course, FCP was not going to pay for the labor of my repair (pretty big dime and even more when you consider towing for 250 miles) but he sent out ALL of the engine rebuild and timing parts that I needed at no cost. Wow! That's what I call standing behind your products. So, the only cost to me has been the labor for the engine work. The shop is suppose to be sending Mike back the offending part that caused all of this, so that FCP can investigate and see exactly why/how this part was defective. (That reminds me- I need to check on this to uphold my part of the bargain).

In regards to the parts that were sent- all were top-notch....in some cases I asked for genuine Volvo parts (including that offending INA part) and Mike obliged. The engine runs great now but I'm having some turbo boost issues, I believe unrelated to the rebuild (see performance section above in this forum). Anyway, once again, Kudo's to Mike Rivera and FCP Groton. These are upstanding guys and will not only take care of your parts needs but will stand behind what they sell!

I'm very sorry for the passing of your mother. Our prayers and best wishes are with you and your family.

I had the displeasure of dealing with Mike Rivera at FCP. He lied to me and completely lacked any sense of professionalism. I've got to be honest he sounded more like a thug to me over the phone in this particular instant (about 4 months ago).

From a business perspective, I can totally understand why Mike would go out of his way in this situation . It makes good cents (& big dollars) to give preferential treatment to such an automotive guru as you MadeInJapan ...think of the referrals and good word of mouth.

Anyways not to rant ... I hope I haven't offended anyone. I'm glad you had another pleasant transaction with Mike.

These guys aren't horrible...bought from them many times before(might still)...they just could improve ALOOOT ....in terms of customer service...if you don't want the chance of a rude encounter....they have an online option...works very well.

Once again MadeInJApan....I'm really sorry for your loss.

I hope your son recovers soon!

My thoughts are with you and your family, Dave. Thanks for the update on the situation and FCP's reaction.
