2003 v 70 front brake pad replacement
2003 v 70 front brake pad replacement
After a $495 quote for front brake pad replacement (no doubt they will recommend a roter replacement aswell), I was hoping someone might have a step by step instruction manual or just a good memory of past experience. I understand that after I jack up the front end, remove the wheel I should use a 7mm hex to remove the pins (?) Is this correct ? There are no bolts to remove? And what is the best way to push the piston back? I know its just $495, but come on; were living in a depression! The rotor appears to be a little worn, but I;ve replace pads on alot worse. Thanks for any help.

If your car is similar to the S80, this writeup should help. The update at the end shows how to remove the pins. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 0801#50801

Simple job. For pushing the piston back, I use a plumber pliers that adjusts to open the pliers widely. The caliper has a tab that allows the pliers to hold on here, while you squeeze the piston back.
Thanks Vegasjetskier, I just downloaded and printed out a copy of the thread and pics. After reading through a hundred threads there would be more information on the subject. I guess I have to take a chance as to whether or not the 80 and the 70 have the same braking system; i'm moving my laptop out to the garage and I'll check for updates from anyone else. It's the wifes volvo and as you can guess I'm in a pickel! Can anyone tell me how to remove the spring (I think thats what it's called, wire band that runs in front of the pads)

If the spring is like the one on the 90's 850's and S/V70's then your hand or a a flat head screw driver or pliers work fine. It's a little tricky getting it back on, but it will go on...eventually. lol
