S40: What triggers the service light?

Post by MichaelJ »

Hi,

I'm wondering what actually triggers the service light on the S40. Is it triggered by software or is it triggered by reading sensors? Or maybe just a time-triggered light (and thus not indicating a problem but simply indicating a certain amout of time is passed since the last reset....).

Does anyone out here know?
Thanks!
Michael

On my 850 it's simply a timer (and I remember reading somewhere) with a milage check, whichever comes first. Don't quote me on the milage check bit, I'm not sure.

Surprisingly, a dealer rep told me that the time interval can be set, and he did just that, setting my interval to the max 18 months.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Thanks for your answer. I kind of expected it not to be intelligent!
Guess I'll stick to the maintainance-schedule that was included in the docs I got with my S40.

Hello

No the trigger works two fold
1) aprox 15000 km
2) driving style also reduces the time

Just reset the service lamp if require as indicated on this site
