My Volvo story

Post by chadlewis3 »

This is my first post here so I figured I'd share my story along with a few questions I have.

A few years ago I sold my '74 Monte Carlo because of it's less than friendly fuel economy (go figure) and the high price of the gas that my car was gulping. I went to a local dealer to buy a car to drive around until I found a suitable replacement. That's when I saw a 1996 Volvo GLT sitting in the back of the lot looking a little sad. It had 135k miles, significant blemishes in the paint below the bumpers both front and back, a check engine light, a service light, and an ABS light. I took it for a drive and was surprised to find that it drove quite well despite the dash looking like Times Square. I ended up talking him down to $1500 for the car and drove off the lot fully expecting to sell this car in a few months.

...That was 4 years ago :D . I fell in love with this car and in the last year, I finally made the decision to "fix it up". In the last year I've replaced the entire exhaust system, brakes, rotors, tires, PCV, ABS controller, and even touched up the trim. I've been using this forum as a guide to do most of this, I even soldered my own ABS module back to life!

I'm looking to find the grill located on the lower part of the front end, what is this called? I'm not having much luck...

Is this what you're looking for, the belly pan/air guide?

I haven't checked to see if I need that or not, I'm actually looking for the 2 pieces of grille behind the tow hooks and the larger piece between those.

If you're missing the entire air guide you need it for cooling and air flow.
Not cheap, about $125+ (it has fins on the outer end that go into that lower center opening, there is no "grill" per se.
The two outer grills are very cheap
