Broken rear spring

2001 S40. I came home just now to find a 3" piece of suspension spring in the driveway. I am sure my wife will complain about "Clunking" when she comes home. I will assume (by placement on the driveway) that it's the left rear. What type of work do I have ahead of me? Must it go to a shop? If I p/u a spring compressor, do I need any other specialty tools?
