Help: oil deposit under spark plug cover

Post by bluezero000 »

When I opened the spark plug cover this afternoon, I noticed some oil deposit behind the engine oil cap. :shock: The oil deposit only spread around the cap. Fortunately, it wasn't bad enough to flood the spark plugs, yet. Does it mean I need a new cap? Or I just screwed on the cap incorrectly three months ago when I changed the engine oil? :? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You need a new cap gasket. It's about $1 or so. Dealer should have this. Call first.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link

Well, I did screw on the cap with the oil sign upside down when I changed the oil last time. I put on the cap with the oil sign up right yesterday and didn't see much further oil spill after one day's driving. I replaced the gasket anyway. Maybe over time, the gasket deforms and should be screwed on in only one direction...

Over time the gasket gets hard and brittle, it just fails to seal correctly after that.
