cv joint

We are on vacation in Oceanside CA and think our cv joint on our 2001 v70 may be bad. Any suggestions on whether to take it to dealer in Carlsbad or try our luck (we live in Idaho- about a 14 hour drive from here)? What would be a realistic quote to get this fixed at a dealer? Any help would be appreciated!

If you have a good volvo indie repair shop at home, I would wait until you get home and get it done there.
