My 2004 Volvo S60 has peeling paint on the passenger side and roof. The driver's side is just fine.
Has anyone else had trouble with the paint job on their model.
Has there been a "paint recall" on the 2004 S60 model?
If not, how do I repair the defect?

Did you buy it new?
Sounds like a bad repaint

Find a quaity bodyshop and bring it by. A roof on an S60 should only cost $300 for a quality respray. make sure that they take off the side rail moldings or stop the paint before the sealant strip.

$300 for a GOOD job?
Heck, I'm a dealer (wholesale) and I pay 300 to 350 for a "GOOD" job
He also said the SIDE of the car.
Almost definitely must have been repainted (poorly).
Every good shop around here charges at least $500 per panel (retail) for quality work

S60TN - Where are you in TN?
If its local I can set you up with some shops. The $300 for the roof is based on book times (Mithcell, ADP etc). Any TN body shop can do the roof for that amount. the side will be more. Your probably looking at $800-$1000 if you pull all the trim yourself.
Perhaps the labor rate is different here in TN then in PA where JRL is. I was an estimator in his neck of the woods for years. Perhaps their labor rate went up. If you sit down with your bodyman and have him pull the book (all on computer now) you can see the time needed. Then discuss their hourly rate if its only paint. Keep inmind its not the shop - its the painter and the equipment they have. See several examples of thepainters completed work before having them do it. The best thing you can do is to remove all of the moldings and tape it up for them. Its the labor of removing and relacing all the trim etc that really pushes repair cost over the top for me. Its also a pain for them to remove and shops always cut me a deal when I have the car preped for them.
Volvo has had paint issues. It is improved over the days of the 240's but time will tell.
If you can find out who did the last respray some bodyshop guarantee their work for life. Others do not.
Good Luck,
John

I too have had terrible luck with my 2001 S60. I have areas where the paint has completely come off in sections on the roof and beginning to fade on the trunk lid. I've been told that Volvo's are horrible cars to have in FL as they don't handle the heat so well (wish I'd known that prior to purchase). Unfortunately, I've had to invest money into more important parts of my car so haven't had time to look into the cost of aesthetics.
Good luck and I'll be curious as to how much you end up paying.
