New page: Volvo Transmissions Guide

Post by matthew1 »

>>> Volvo Transmission Guide Page <<<

As you'd expect from the title, this page gives an overview of
Model / Year / Engine Size / Trans Type / Transmission Model

It only goes up to 2006 or so, so if you have additional data to add, please get it to me either by posting to this topic or private messaging me. Thanks!

Naturally, it's part of the Volvo Repair Database, and falls under the VRD navigation element in the site's navigation tree.

Bart at http://www.importdrivetrain.com/ was nice enough to let me use that data. Many thanks.

2006-2007 S60R's and V70R's (R's only) with an auto have a TF-80SC

It is an Aisin Warner 6 speed auto
Can be shifted manually
takes JWS 3309 fluid
Torque converter is locked in 2nd-6th.
It has no dipstick
Instead a level plug is fitted in the middle of the drain plug.
The fill plug is in the front (radiator side) top of the unit
The plug in the back that looks like the fill plug must not be touched unless the unit is being rebuilt

Outstanding, thanks John.

I can see this simple grid is not going to cut it. What I'll probably do is break out each transmission, give it its own forum topic, then link from the Transmission Guide page to the specific tranny forum post.

Matt, good addition to the site. I think we should add the fluids that each of the respective transmissions use for a flush/fluid change; that would be very helpful information to put together.

One little thing...as far as I know, both the 2000 S/V70 AWD's still used the AW50-42 transmission.

Cars with the B5244S engine, and AWD (Europe?) came with the 50-55AWD transmission, but AWD's were never made with that engine in the US (they are all B5244T).

Nitpicky point, I know, but the 5-speed only came in the base model 2000 cars.

The transmissions' names are a big ugly alphabet soup. I needed something to make sense of it. :-)
