My voltage regulator went out recently. I replaced the regulator and then noticed that the climate control module would not work...no lights or anything. I replaced the CCM with one from eBay and it appears to be working (fan in all positions and lights) but will not power up the AC Compressor. I verified the AC Compressor would start (clutch engage) by hard wiring to the power block.
I would like some advice on AC relay/sensor placement on the S80 2000. I verified the compressor fuse was good.
Another issue I noticed is when I had the compressor hardwired, the passenger side temperature was warmer than drivers side both set at coldest setting...does the module need programming to correct this (as well as activate the auxiliary buttons) ? Thanks in advance.
Replaced climate control module, AC Compressor won't kick in
My V70 has the same problem with the passenger side being warm driver side cold when on AC One dealer felt it was in the heater box and removed Every Thing from the console to the steering wheel ,speedo, glove box, plus ,plus... But could not get the top of the dash off in order to get to the heater box, after an hour or more ,gave up and put it all back together, they did not charge as no repair was acomplished.Went to an other Volvo dealer and they checked the output on there computer and rebalanced the system, right side will become cooler after 10 min. on a hot day, they say it may have a defective control motor that controls the flaps for the right side.. Will let you know how that works out.????
I went to the dealer to have the CCM programed and now the AC Compressor starts properly and all auxiliary controls work as expected (I expected to need the programming only to activate the axillary controls and calibrate the sensors). BTW, from other research across forums, there appears to be a relay in the engine compartment fuse box FMI1 that is for the AC compressor.
So, for others passing by this thread...for 2000 and newer S80's
* If you have a failed CCM (climate control module), it is fairly easy to replace with a used one from eBay/salvage yard.
* If you replace the CCM, the module will not work properly (ie. won't activate the AC Compressor, trunk valet, traction control, rear defroster, etc) until it is programmed to the car. It will activate the fan controls and the damper/flap motors without programming.

After programming was successful I still noticed that the passenger side was warmer. When I got home I checked the pressure at the low side valve and noticed that I needed to add some refrigerant...so I added some and now both sides are blowing what feels like equal temp...it is worth verifying before you take the glove box out and start testing control motors
Also, this may sound silly, but I would also check the cabin air filter.

We are having the same problem with an 2002 S60, Ac won't start replaced the CCM with a used one, took the vehicle to the local Volvo Dealership and were told that it is not possible to re-program software for a used CCM not origional to the vehicle we would have to purchase a new one ($1100) have it re-programed ($120) with the software ($64)
