SOS Fuel leak XC70 Ocean Race 2001

Post by nickbw898 »

My 2001 XC70 Ocean Race which is normally reliable has developed a fuel leak since the week end. I filled it FULL for the first time in months and parked it on a sloping drive about 4.30pm on Friday evening ready for a very early start the following day. About 6.30pm I discovered fuel had been leaking onto the drive.
Parked on the level there is no fuel leak. However, I refilled it today and at the filling station once tank was half full the service staff could see the tank was leaking onto the forecourt.

I have removed the drivers side rear wheel which allows visual inspection of the fuel delivery pipes to the tank (3 tubes) and can see nothing amiss. The clips are in place, there are no visible splits. The fuel filter is in place and the Q/R clips are connected with no trace of a leak. What then is the cause of my leak?

If anyone can make useful suggestions then I would be very grateful !!!
I have Vadis but it is uninformative beyond the tank sender unit.

Check the fuel pump. There's a recall on certain models about defective pumps w/c leaks. Check NHTSA for recalls on your particular M.Y.. My 03 S60 was included in that recall but dealer inspection showed no leaks.
