New P2 XC70 owner - Thanks board posters!! Climate Control!

Post by volvo_wagon_geezer »

From a real "Car Junkie" - This is a great Forum!!! I just put my 2002 XC70 on the road after buying it and storing it for a year stateside while I was overseas and this Forum has saved me much $$$$.

I had my storage shop charge the battery and that move, of course, killed the Climate Control Module. My wife and I had scheduled a trip for the July 4th weekend with the "new" XC and she called me the day I was flying to meet her to say the center console was dead. Well, thanks to this Forum, I was able to do the reboot - Touch the battery cables together and reconnect the terminals with the key in the # II position and voila!! Working CCM!!

We traveled 460 miles each way and the car was netting 29.5 to 30 MPG (actual) with the cuise set on 75 to 80 MPH and the AC running hard. Fantastic. The trip computer/ AVG MPG was pessimistic at 25 MPG and I had to check my math and gallonage a couple times but this car did the 460 miles with a few gallons left in the tank to spare. Unbelievable!! The only other car I ever owned that weighed this much and only came close to this was an Audi A6 Avante 2.8 V6 1996 that would get 26 to 27 MPG. Wasn't nearly as comfy as the XC70, though.

If anyone is interested - I will be posting in the Parts section "parting out - '98 XC70 with 75k miles and a '99 V70 T5 turbo"

Nice job on getting the climate control working again. I have to agree with you about the MPG these cars get on the highway. I have a 04 S60R with a tune and everything. I was getting 28 MPG on the highway this past 4th of July when I went up to PA which was awesome!!

Going on a weekender with the new V70 R. Been getting 30 on short highway runs, but this will be a more comprehensive test. I'll report back.
