random bong sounds from dash!?!?

Post by carboncow »

2001 T5, I've had it about a month.

Wife's daily driver and she commented on a few random bongs/dings from the dash area with no message on the LEDs or CELs.

I drove it the last few days and noted this bong 3 times in an hour while on the freeway and another time in City traffic...but not once today on the same commute!

What do bongs tend to signal on these vehicles even if it's sounding at the wrong time!

We never here a ding when programing the seats and we have another ding for key related concerns (left in ignition)...so we are clueless.

Do you have an idea of what the bongs sound like? Does it sound like something is loose behind the dash hitting it or something farther forward, like in the engine bay?

Had a similiar complaint from wife and drove the XC90 for two days. Turned out the Tomtom GPS chimes three times when driver exceeds posted speed limit. Both of us were unaware of the feature and I ended up sliencing it.

Just sharing a posibility...

haha! I've got a few friends like that...like the guy who had to call On Star to figure out how to put jumpers on a car battery...

But I'm not that clueless...been wrenching on Saabs, Vw, BMW and Porsche for 20 years. New to Volvo so looking for those "common failure trends". Things that are odd to me that you guys say "oh that is just the so and so relay that goes bad on all v70s!

Thanks, but need in dash ideas!
